Calathea makoyana, commonly referred to as the peacock plant, is a perennial evergreen boasting sizable oval leaves attached to elongated, slender stems. These leaves showcase a captivating pattern with a pale cream backdrop adorned with intricate dark green designs and stripes. The undersides of the leaves exhibit a rich burgundy hue, occasionally tinged with a subtle hint of pink. In the mature stage, this plant may grace its surroundings with tiny, elegant white flowers.

Scientific Name: Calathea Makoyana

Common Names: Peackock Plant

Care Instructions:

Light: Calathea Plants prefer medium to low indirect light. They can handle less sunlight than many other plants, making them perfect for indoor conditions.

Watering: Calathea prefer consistently moist soil but don't like to be overly waterlogged. During the growing season (spring and summer), water your plant when the top inch of soil becomes dry to the touch. During the dormant season (fall and winter), allow the top two inches of soil to dry out before watering. Use lukewarm, distilled, or rain water to avoid leaf spotting caused by minerals found in tap water.

Humidity: Calathea plants are native to tropical environments and thus prefer high humidity. Consider placing your plant on a tray filled with pebbles and a little water or use a humidifier to increase the humidity levels.

Temperature: Calathea Makoyana prefers a warm environment and does not tolerate cold drafts or temperatures below 60°F (15°C). The ideal temperatures for your plant are between 70°F (21°C) and 85°F (29°C).

Fertilizer: Feed your Makoyana Plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength every month during the growing season. Do not fertilize during the winter.

Pet Information: Non-toxic for pets. Suitable for pet-friendly environments.
